RANDOM THOUGHTS ON GQ
So I'm sure a lot of you have heard about or seen the September 09 GQ cover featuring the man of the hour, Mr Michael Jackson. I'm also sure most of you have heard about the Jermaine Dupri twitter controversy pertaining to said GQ cover. Here's the story if you haven't read it.
Apparently JD is pissed at the headline of the supposed article, "When Michael was cool" and the headline "Before the Weirdness Claimed his legacy...". He claims those headlines where disrespectful back handed compliments and it's a bullshit tribute.
I do agree with JD. The entire article (not just the headlines) wasn't much of a tribute. If you want to honor the king respectfully it would be best to leave his weirdness out of it. But in defense of GQ, it wasn't like they were lying.
But disrespect aside this article (or it's pictures rather) did make me realize something. Michael was a pretty snazzy dresser back in the day. I know it sounds like I'm 1,000 years late. I know Michael's BEEN known for his iconic fashion. I'm well aware of the fedora, the glittery military jackets, the aviator shades and of course the single sequined glove. But I'm talking about Michael's fashion before all that.
Michael's been a damn good dresser since day one. Look at these fashionable pics from his teens and early 20s. (btw the mute button is on the top left hand corner. i couldn't really figure out how to take off that damned ashley tisdale song)

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON BEING A LATE 80s BABY
It was only the second playlist of it's kind. The first was an I love the 70s playlist
The after that I thought well 70s was the decade of party tracks. It was the decade in which disco was born. It was the decade defined by constant clubbin. Of course being the dancer that I am I'd gravitate to that kind of music. This is also a huge factor but I still felt I hadn't hit the nail on the head yet.

HOW COME MARIAH DOESN'T BUST OUT THE POWER BALLAD'S ANYMORE?
For some reason when I woke up this morning I felt like listening to some old school Mariah Carey. Just a few days ago I'd decided to add an old song of hers I used to love to ipod. It was called Music Box.
Listening to music box reminded me that Mariah actually used to have talent and that I actually liked her at one point. Before I knew it I was digging through my ancient cd collection looking for my Mariah Carey Greatest Hits album.
I poppin in the first disk and started playing Vision of Love, I Don't Wanna Cry and Anytime You Need a Friend. All I could think was geez she just doesn't bust those notes like she used to.
I know she just had a successful power ballad in 05 with We Belong Together. It was a cute song but honestly if you compare her vocals on that one to the old Mariah it doesn't even compare. It kinda pissed me off.
It's like God gave her this amazing talent and she's just sitting on it. She reminds me of the smart kid that dumbs themself down because they're trying to be cool. Now Mariah would much rather be cute and flaunt her "street cred" than show us that she has some bangin pipes.
Wow Mariah. I used to look up to you man. What happened?

... BUT THE KID IS NOT HIS SON
So apparently Billie Jean wasn't just a song. According to pretty much every gossip site out there Michael Jackson allegedly has a a fourth child. This one is supposed to actually be biologically his and was conceived during a one night stand with some Norwegian chick.
This doesn't surprise me that people are coming out of the woodwork trying to find a child biologically fathered by the MJ. I kind of understand why people want to see it. We're all just so broken up over him leaving us that we wish the King of Pop had left us with a biological heir to the throne to fill the empty space.
Of course you can tell by the title of this post that I think this story is bullshit. But what really pisses me off is Joe Jackson actually feeding into the bullshit. He's not mourning his son. He's just pissed he lost his cash cow!
Instead of taking five minutes to really look at the kid to see that he doesn't resemble Michael at all he looks at the kids dance moves. Claiming that he dances like a Jackson. Let's not forget he showed interest in Michael's other 3 kids' music talent as well. He just can't wait to exploit those kids and make money off them.
Seriously take a look. Sure he looks like Mike post vitiligo and plastic surgery. But that doesn't have SHIT to do with his genes. Look and untouched Mike and look at Omer Bhatti (the 25 yr old in question).
They don't look a damn thing alike! I'm getting pretty sick of people comparing recent pics of Michael to his children and alleged children and saying, "See? Look! They have his chin". That's not his got damn chin! That's the chin he bought! Sure he altered his face to heart's content but the guy couldn't possibly change his genes.
Ergo if Michael Jackson had a biological child, no matter what race the mother is, the child has to have some physical evidence of being half black. That man carried plenty dominant genes. At least some of them would have to show up. There's no way Michael could father a child that looks 100% Caucasian.
By the way. Omer Bhatti himself doesn't even think he's Michael's child. Take a look at the story.

SHE HASN'T GIVEN UP YET
I was almost convinced that since Amerie wasn't gettin much love in the states she was just going to keep releasing music in Europe. Apparanly she has a much bigger audience over there than she does here.
But it seems she hasn't quite given up on the old US of A yet. She's now signed to Def Jam and ready to make her debut her new label with her new album In Love & War.
The release date is supposed to be sometime in August but I'm not sure if that's still the case. It doesn't matter to me when it comes out as long as it does come out.
I've had both All I Have and Touch (her first two albums for those who don't know) and I loved them both. I think they were definitely slept on, especially Touch.
I've also done a previous post on the singles she's released in Europe (Take Control, and Gotta Work). I love those too. I don't know why I seem to be the only one that likes her but it's cool I'm used to standing alone when it comes to these matters.
Anyways here's the video for her first singe. Why R U. I dig it.

HEY! I KINDA DIG LETOYA
Once again I happen to like another female artist that is so slept on.
I actually had LeToya's first album and I thought it was great. She was just a victim of bad single releases. She had some great ballads and some great club bangers. Unfortunately her voice isn't quite as powerful as Beyonce's but she still sounds a lot better than a lot of chicks out there.
Her first single Not Anymore was good but not enough to get her noticed in this saturated market of female singers. But her second single is kinda hot (it should've been her first). It definitely deserves much more airplay. Check out the video.

IS THIS HOW VIBE MAG IS GONNA BE REMEMBERED?
I was hoping that they would bring vibe vixen back but it seems like that isn't gonna happen because apparently vibe can't even keep it's head above water. Yup the recession is serious folks. There will be no more vibe magazine. I think it's a damn shame because it was one of the last good urban magazine's left. Now what are we gonna read? XXL? ICK!
Anyhooz I'm sorta disappointed at their choice of a last cover. Do we really want to remember vibe as promoters of an obvious publicity stunt? Take a gander.
ICK! I guess they were trying to pay homage to Janet Jackson's old rolling stone cover? They definitely do it justice.
Sorry to sound shallow once again but honestly I don't know what ladies see in the Dream anyway. Everything about the guy screams mediocre (except for the beats and lyrics). He just looks average. His voice is below average. His personality comes across as just average. ICK!
Second does Christina Milian think this helps her reputation? Nick Canon to Dre to the Dream? Seriously man it's like she's doing anything (or anybody rather) to stay in the limelight.
I think it's retarded when people use their personal lives to sell themselves because history has proved time and time again that it doesn't work. People read up about the controversy, and people talk about the controversy, but if the music sucks people are still gonna ignore it.
Do people think because R. Kelly sold well in the midst of the whole sex tape controversy that there's a connection between controversy and album sales? NOPE! R.Kelly sold because chocolate factory was a hot ass album. The same goes for 50.
The beef didn't sell his records. Hot music sold his records. As you can see now the beef with Rick Ross isn't helping much in the comeback department. And Rick Ross gets more airplay than him.
Anywayz I digress. If Christina Milian wants to save her career she needs to get hot beats and lyrics from the Dream. She doesn't need to marry him. It's not helping her at all.
Or perhaps she should give up on music all together. It's not like she has much of a voice anyway. I've said this a million times already and I'll say it again. The market for female solo artists is way too damn saturated. We need to get rid of the dead weight anyway.
She's been at it for like 9 years already and she's gotten nowhere. It's time to give up.
Maybe she should try acting or something. She's pretty she should be able to land herself and nice sit com or something. But Christina Milian's music career is pretty much over.
I think it sucks that VIBE wasted their last cover on this garbage. They should've given it to a legend like...i dunno... Michael Jackson perhaps?

YOU SEE CASSIE? NOW THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT.
I was definitely not a fan of Cassies' new haircut. I thought it was a stupid lame attempt to do something rock starish.
Don't get me wrong I think the shaved head thing is cool. I'm a definite fan of Amber Rose's do. But I think if you're gonna shave your head you either have to shave it all or shave some but make sure the rest of it is still short.
Check out Rihanna's new do. I think Cassie could take some notes.

YOU'RE KILLING ME BEY!
I don't know about the rest of you but I'm BLOODY SICK of watching Beyonce play dress up in her music videos. Sweet Dream was my favorite song off of the I Am... Sasha Fierce album but after seeing the video now all I can do when I hear the song is roll my eyes. Can we take a look at Beyonce's recent video history please?
Now boys and girls can anyone tell me what all these video's have in common? They are all nothing but Beyonce showing off how cute she is. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with females showing off the beauty they were blessed with and we all know Beyonce is beautiful woman. But that's just it... well all already know that Beyonce is a beautiful woman. Now can she show us something else please? Something like, i don't know, originality or creativity?
How many times is she she gonna do this put me in the middle and I'll have 2 female dancers on either side of me thing? It was fantastic the first time she did it. Single Ladies will always be a classic video. But now she's making herself look like a one trick pony by recreating it 3 times over. Time for a fresh new idea Bey otherwise you'll just turn into Mariah Carey part 2. Can anyone remember the last time that chick put out a video with some meaning?

BEAUTIFUL
It's a miracle that Eminem and his potty mouth was able to come out with another single. I'm actually pretty shocked that it would be beautiful. For those who don't know beautiful is the only song on Relapse that Eminen recorded in the midst of his drug addiction and depression. I said this before and I'll say it again this song and video demonstrates that Eminem doesn't always have to go for shock value to get attention. Even when he tones it down his talent still shines through. I liked this song mainly because I like any song that comes from an honest place. He really takes you to the center of his pain with this one. This time it's without any jokes or offensive lyrics or without pissing off the people he felt wronged him. It's just an honest look into how he was feeling at the time. As a matter of fact I shouldn't even call it Eminem's video. This is Marshall Mathers' video. I love it. The video is great to and I know it sounds shallow but I have to say it...he looks damn sexy in it.

THURSDAY THROWBACK: THE MICHAEL JACKSON COLLABORATIONS
I just wanted a reason to post the video's I didn't get a chance to post in the RIP Michael Jackson Playlist. 10 videos really weren't enough to post my favs. But here are 2 more. The first is Say Say Say a duet with Paul McCartney released in 1983.
Second is his duet with his little sister Janet released in 1995. I loved to see Mike and Janet dance together. It was hot.

INVINCIBLE
I remember I was in a variety store and I had just bought a Harry Potter locker mirror for my high school locker and they were playing the entire Invincible cd. I don't remember not liking a single song they played. I couldn't even believe it was Michael Jackson. I didn't like a lot of the stuff he put out in the 90s so I figured Invicible would be crap but I loved it.
Even though I didn't actually buy it until recently the songs I heard stuck in my head and 8 years later I haven't forgotten them. That's crazy I never remember anything after only hearing it once. So here comes the part where I talk about my favorite tracks. The one song that stuck out in my head was Break of Dawn. It kills me cuz i didn't even know the name of the song I just remember the beat and melody and 8 years later I decide ok lemme look up the track listing for Invincible and as soon as I saw the title i thought "THAT'S IT! THAT'S THE HOT SONG I HEARD IN THE STORE"!
Michael hasn't really been known for baby makin music but damnit I would totally smash to this song.
My other favorite song (besides the singles of course) is the title track Invincible. I would've loved to see what dance moves Mike would've come up with for this one. It's a shame I never got to see him in concert.
I know I usually choose 2 songs tops but because it's Mike I had to pick a third. Last but not least I picked Whatever Happens featuring Carlos Santana

NEVER MIND I TAKE IT BACK
Now that I've been listening to Eminem a lot more often I have elaborate on a statement I made in an earlier post. I said people shouldn't expect Eminem to change cuz he can't be like everyone else right now he has to stay true to himself. I still believe that somewhat. I like the shock value in the songs most of the time but now i've come to realize that though shocking lyrics is what Eminem is known for he doesn't need it to be hot. The shockin lyrics actually take the spotlight away from his amazing lyrical talent. People are so creeped out or pissed off by the lyrics they tend to forget that the guy can actually rap.
Did he forget that his most successful song to date (Loose Yourself) had no shocking lyrics in it? How do you expect to be popular if you keep making song you can't play on the radio? Just to illustrate my point here a few of my favorite non shocking Eminem songs that I love just as much if not more than the shocking ones.
and since you tube is being such an asshole by disabling embedding on everything click the pic to hear Eminem & T.I. Touchdown

GUESS WHOS BACK!
Hello there people. I know it's been a long time. I've been on vacation. But you know I had to come back and sound off on this eminem Nick Canon Beef. It's killing me to do this because I used to be the biggest Eminem fan in the world in my teen years. I would defend him against any enemy. It was so serious I even earned the nickname "eminem's lawyer". But eventually I grew up and I think it's time Slim Shady did the same. He once said in an interview that his fans have it hard cuz it must be a tough job having to defend him all the time. Ya damn right Slim it was a tough job and it's a job I can't do anymore.
Take a peek at the news story
Now take a peek and Nick's blog entry
Before I get on my issues with Shady lemme point out the holes in Nick Canons argument. Call Eminem what you want but you can't say he's racist. He's constantly surrounded by black people and he's rapper for Christs fuckin sake! The guy doesn't hate black people or else he'd be a country singer or something. You think Dr Dre would really sign a racists to his label? Get real guy!
Second Mariah Carey IS NOT BLACK! I don't give a shit what bullshit poserness she was doin in that new dream video tryna act like she can braid hair when she know damn well she can't. He claims she got the same racial makeup as the president. Yes Obama is half black. Mariah Carey is 1/4 black. Big fuckin difference! Her mom is Irish. Her dad was 1/2 black and 1/2 Venezuelan. Ergo Mariah is 1/2 white 1/4 latina and 1/4 black. And no black and latino aint the same thing. Yes they have similarties but no they aren't the same. Let's get that straight. So no Eminem isn't insulting a black woman he's insulting a mixed chick. Now I'm not saying that makes it any better. I'm simply saying insulting Mariah Carey doesn't make Eminem a racist seeing as half of her is the same race he is and only 1/4 of her is the same race as Nick.
Now lemme get to Eminem. As much as I'd hate to admit it Nick Canon was absolutley right. It seems like Eminem has a seriously hard time with letting go of the past. It seems like his whole career was built on talkin shit about people and it's ALWAYS THE SAME FUCKIN PEOPLE. As a fan I'm getting kinda sick of hearing about ya damn moms and ya damn on again off again wife. I'm sick of hearing about everybody in your life that made you feel bad. Can you rap about something else please? Lets say you did smash Mariah. Dat shit was 8 years ago dude! Have you not gotten some since then or something? It seems like this guy keeps making the same song over and over and over again. Furthermore it's like he's making the same music video over and over and over. How many times I'm I gonna watch this guy play dress up? You're disappointing the shit outta me Slim. It's time for you to grow up and quit makin fun of people and start rapping about shit thats actually important damn. If you don't wanna do that den you need to just fall back and produce cuz I don't wanna hear carbon copies of My Name Is for like the 100th time and I don't wanna hear you complain about how much ur life sucks. Quit actin like such a bitch and man up and maybe you can get back on top. You're really too talented for this crap.
What makes things even worse is that Nick Canon already said all the things Eminem could say back to diss him. He already acknowledged he has inferior rap skills. He already said he was corny. He already discussed that he was on Nickelodeon. That was a very smart move on Nick's part cuz seriously what else can Eminem say about him? He already mentioned it all. And the thing that's ironic is that's the same strategy his character in 8mile used to win the ending battle against Poppa Doc. It's a damn shame.

THURSDAY THROWBACK: ZIPLOCK
I wonder what ever happened to LIT. I know everyone knows their smash hit My Own Worst Enemy but I think I'm the only person in the world that remembers the song that came after that; Ziplock (1999). The reason I remember is because in junior high school I remember me and my friends always making fun of the bridge to that song. Like seriously who writes a song about keeping things in a ziplock bag in their pocket?
and just for old times sake

THURSDAY THROWBACK: LET IT GO
I was thinking about the first episode of For the love of Ray J when he performed his song Sexy Can I. I was thinking sheesh r&b performances are garbage when the singers don't dance. Then I remembered Ray J did used to dance back in the day. So I dug up his first video EVER. I don't know if anybody remembers this song let it go from 97. He was so cute then. I can't believe I forgot to put this in my when they were cute playlist.
Just for more dancing young ray j fun. He's dancing with brandy right where she gets to the bridge towards the end. It's at around 3:20.

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON BOW WOW
I heard on the radio the other day that Bow Wow is gonna retire from rap. I think it's a smart decision on his part. I think more rappers need to acknowledge when their time has passed. Theres no shame in it, especially when you've already been rapping for years. Yes he's only 22 but he been rapping since he was 12 (well 6 if you count his time opening for Snoop Dogg). I also think Bow Wow could have a promising career in acting. I loved Roll Bounce. I could even see Bow Wow with his own little sit com or something. I just hope he doesn't try to make a come back after a year.
Oh and seriously how come in his latest video you can't get a clear shot of his face? Did he have a pimple he was hiding that day or something?

Well it's cute how Miley Cyrus is trying to be all deep and everything but this song really shows off just how much her voice SUCKS! Here's the thing when you don't really have a voice it's usually best to lay off the ballad's . Not impressed. I don't see what the big deal with her is anyway.

I like this video. It's different. I like the song to. I hate to sound like a broken record but she has to come harder if she wants a spot in this saturated market of female solo r&b artists.

WICKED COOL STYLE: JENNIFER HUDSON
I was inspired by BET's Rip Da Runway 09 to do a wicked cool style post on a plus sized diva (well 2 actually but you'll see the other one next week). The plus sized section is always my favorite part of the show and I think there are some really beautiful big girls out there. I really wanna show them some love.

NEVER EVER
All I have to say is Ciara is really tryna hold on to her career. I like this song a lot more than Go Girl. It looks like Ciara stepped up her fashion game too. I like the lyrics to the song as well cuz there are a lot of girls out there that need to know when they're beating a dead horse. Dunno if this song is enuff to save her career though. Her competition is pretty freaking steep. Even Beyonce is struggling to shine with all these other female solo r&b artists out at the same time.
While we're on the subject of Ciara I just wanna address the song that I thought was going to be her second single. I dig it but the only thing I'll say is that it sounds like it shoulda been Justin Timberlake's song first and he just let her have it. She didn't put her own personality on it. It just sounds like she's just riding Justin's coat tail. I dunno if it's enough to save her. She gets an A for effort though.

UMMM IS KERI HILSON OUT HER DAMN MIND?
I heard the remix to turning me on on the radio the other morning. It seems like Keri Hilson is pissed at somebody but I have no idea who. Some people say its Ciara some people say it's Beyonce some people say it's both. All I have to say is if she commin sideways at Beyonce she must be out her damn mind. I'm not the biggest Beyonce fan myself but I do know she had waaaaaayyyy more hit songs than Keri. The fact that she's a songwriter is irrelevant cuz nobody cares about the behind the scenes people (with the exception of producers). As an artist she's a rookie and she's just damn crazy to try to come after veteran. Especially when she knows said veteran aint even gonna give her the time of day to even respond. Its just a waste of freakin time. Not only that out of the 3 singles (5 if you count the 2 she has with timberland) she released so far only one was hot. The rest were wack. What the hell is she thinkin?

THE FEAR
SO! I'm back in effect with my 101st post and a new layout and a new url and a new headline! I hope you like.
You know what I like about Lilly Allen? At first you hear her songs they seem all happy and joyful and then one day you actually listen to the lyrics and find out its really not so happy and joyful. She has a new video for her song the fear. I was so distracted by the happy beat and happy video I didn't even realize what the hell the song was about it first. To demonstrate what I mean I posted the video and then right after I posted the song lyrics.

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON BRITNEY SPEARS
Ok I know this is really random but I was listening to my ipod the other day and a Britney Spears song came up. It was off the blackout album. It reminded me of how she got all those mtv video music awards for Piece of Me (which thought was even more wack than Gimmie More). What makes me more angry is that everybody totally slept on the third single of that album (Break the Ice). It's the only Britney Spears song (post her loosing her damn mind) that I actually liked. If she had put more effort into the video instead of just using animation as a crutch I wouldn't have have been mad if she got awards for it.
